Ron and Alison Hope have lived in the area for many years and know the region better than most. Ron was born in Taumarunui and Alison moved here from Brisbane.

“Absolute heaven!”
I walked into this warmest, most gorgeous cottage after a long and cold trip south. What a find!! Amazing hosts Alison and Ron had, prior to my arrival, turned on the (gas) fire as well as the electric blanket on my so-comfortable bed. It was like coming home – only better. I had the cottage to myself, as once one room (there are 2) is booked, they won’t accept another booking. This is to ensure you have absolute privacy. The cottage is immaculate – as good if not better than any 4-star hotel I’ve stayed in anywhere in the world.
Alison had stocked the kitchen with milk, fresh bread and yummy jams, quality muesli and yogurt, tea and coffee (instant and plunger!) – all this for breakfast. Lounge furniture was super comfortable and there’s a large collection on DVDs and CDs on offer. My bedroom ensuite was lovely and spotless (as was everything else). Plenty of hot water. Towels and bed linen of the finest quality. Washing machine and clothes dryer. I just loved the warm and beautiful atmosphere so much I stayed up late to make the most of it and then slept through my alarm! What an amazing place to break up a southbound (or reverse) trip. And what a fab place to book with a couple of friends for a skiing holiday. Only a 10-minute drive from Ohakune. I’m so very pleased I discovered Ranfurly Cottage..not only a place to break my trips to Wellington but a destination in itself
